I'm confident. Oddly confident that the BCS is going to work and that Oklahoma State will play LSU in the national championship game. Why am I confident?
1. Oklahoma State demolished Oklahoma 44-10 last night to win the Big XII and put another notch on their bedpost that includes Baylor, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas and, now, Oklahoma.
2. Okie State was just a little behind Alabama in the BCS computer rankings. With Alabama off -- see: not winning their conference -- a decisive win over the former No. 1 ranked team should bridge the gap there. The BCS computers should rank Oklahoma State No. 2.
3. Virginia Tech lost to Clemson in the ACC title game. Meaning, in the Harris and USA Today polls, Oklahoma State should move up one spot, at least. Maybe -- just maybe -- some voters will jump Oklahoma State over idle Stanford and, possibly, Alabama. Still, moving up one spot will help.
I think this is going to happen. I really do.
As for the game, it was never a game. It was Bedlam in favor of Oklahoma State. The Pokes were up 24-0 before Oklahoma notched a field goal with eight seconds left in the first half. It was 44-3 before Oklahoma scored a trash-time touchdown.
I think another thing that could help the Cowboys get a No. 2 BCS ranking is how they beat Oklahoma. Brandon Weeden had a pretty quiet game. He had 217 yards with no touchdowns.
Instead, they ran the ball, something that they've done well for years with Kendall Hunter before and Joe Randle now. Randle and Jeremy Smith combined for 270 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Cowboys offense isn't a system. It's as real and balanced as any in the nation.
Then the defense. Five turnovers and 350 total yards allowed. Landry Jones has had an awful season, relatively speaking. He's been good in the wins and really bad in the losses. Not a way you want to start your professional career.

North Texas 59, Middle Tennessee State
Whoa. Yes, the Mean Green scored 59 and threw the ball seven times. Lance Dunbar had a Sunbelt and UNT record 313 yards rushing. James Hamilton had 108 yards rushing. A relentless attack that when it works is a devastating way to win a game. Do the Mean Green have an identity?
Baylor 48, Texas 24
Texas has good defense. Not a great defense. It takes greatness to stop Robert Griffin III and the Longhorns are not there yet. When you have to keep tabs on RGIII, Terrance Ganaway and Kendall Wright, you are spread thin. Not to take away from the Bears' ninth win, the Longhorns threw the ball with Case McCoy and it wasn't all that awful. He had some freshman interceptions, which happen. He also completed 61 percent of his throws for 356 yards and had Texas up in Waco 21-14 with nine minutes left in the second quarter. Next fall, it's clear who the Longhorns need to start.
TCU 56, UNLV 9
Ho-hum. Rebuilding year? How about 10 wins with one of their losses being against one of the top 15 teams in the nation (Baylor). How about a BCS bid? All possible now with TCU riding high, per usual. They might never be "down" in the traditional sense as long as Gary Patterson sticks around. Casey Pachall is a sophomore and he threw 24 touchdowns and six interceptions and completed 68 percent of his passes.
