Thanks, Tyson, but we'll keep Brendan Haywood
Dallas Mavericks free agent Tyson Chandler admitted that he doubts he will re-sign with the world champions citing their unwillingness to offer him a long-term, very rich contract he's looking to close out his career with.

He also sounds a little bitter that the Mavericks didn't lock him up sooner.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks, seemingly, are looking at the salary cap and the impending and harrowing luxury tax in the coming years that could bite Mark Cuban in the ass.

Signing Chandler, most think, would kill the Mavericks' ability to go out and possibly bid on Dwight Howard, Deron Williams or Chris Paul, all of which I think the Mavericks have a 1 percent chance of signing one.

Williams, it's thought, wouldn't consider the Mavericks unless he were joining both Nowitzki and Chandler and that an aging Nowitzki would not be enough to entice a younger superstar.

I think we're missing the trees for the forest here. The problem isn't Chandler. The problem isn't those free agents looking for big cash. The problem isn't Dirk Nowitzki and his age.

The problem is Brendan Haywood on the books for about $34.6 million over the next four years and possible $10 million in his final year.

The problem is Shawn Marion making about $25 million over the next three years.

The problem is Jason Terry making $11.4 million this year. Or Jason Kidd making $8 million.

And, well, Dirk ain't cheap.

I don't blame them necessarily for these contracts. Well, hold on, I do blame them. I think the Marion and Haywood deals are ridiculously high. I think Terry's been way overpaid for a long while and he should not have received that long-term deal for that much cash.

I realize the Mavericks just won a title with all these bozos, but Chandler is about to go to another team because he's wanting the same deal that Marion, Terry, Dirk and Haywood got. Give me five more years of Chandler -- I think -- for the next two years of Marion, Terry and the next 25 years of Haywood.

The problem: The Dallas Mavericks. Handing out silly money hand over fist to players that don't necessarily deserve and now it's inhibiting you from keeping players with value.

But, hey, they're world champions. Right?
