Lamar Odom is a piece of work

D-Leaguer
ESPN and other media outlets would like you to know that the Dallas Mavericks and its disgruntled employee, Lamar Odom, have set a timetable for his triumphant return.

I mean, the Mavericks are 0-3 since he decided to tend to his ailing father in Los Angeles last Thursday. In theory, he's their MVP.

The World Wide Leader and others are burying the lead. Odom will play a game this weekend with the Developmental League squad, the Frisco Legends, allegedly to get his "legs" back. It has been a long six days for Odom.

The D-League is actually a sort of minor leagues for the NBA. Teams are allowed, with the player's permission, to send a guy for a rehab stint in the D-League to get back into playing form.

Thing is, no one uses it for this purpose. Players of any note do not go to the D-League for any reason. Not a big deal, I guess. Still, I think it says a lot that Odom is being "sent down."

Odom, clearly, is not in shape. Yes, it's March 2 and there is an NBA player not in playing shape. Also, beating up on castaways could spark some inspiration in his game.

Otherwise, I really don't know why you wouldn't bring him back for New Orleans -- a bad team comprised of potential D-Leaguers. Start him or let him eat Dirk Nowitzki's minutes (since the back is bad). To me, the D-League doesn't make any real sense.

Then again, with Odom, what does make sense?
