The Dallas Stars dominated the Calgary Flames Saturday, 4-1, which is a good thing because the blender that is the 82-game hockey season is set to puree. The Stars sit at 87 agonizing points. Good for the lead in the Pacific. One point out of 10th in the conference.
The good news is that Boston beat hot Los Angeles yesterday and the Phoenix and San Jose keep muddling along.
The other good news is that it all might end this week. Either we'll get a bullet to the back of the head, a gentle and kind quick death or the Stars will pull out of this mess on top. Or at least in the same place they're at now.
The Stars have a four-game road trip this week against some meaty opponents. The combined home records for their opponents: 82-47-18. Even lowly Edmonton is 18-15-5 at home.
I think you set out to get at least four points on the trip, particularly in Calgary tonight and then against the awful Oilers with a night off. The other opportunity is at Vancouver (after another day off) and you have to consider your history in back-to-back games when going to San Jose.
Four points is conservative. Six would a coup. Time to put up or shut up.
