It's April. So we're still overreacting to small sample sizes from prospects.RoundRock Express
After getting smashed as a starter, Mark Hamburger's back in the bullpen.
Tanner Scheppers has three saves, but he's also allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings. If you had to wish a guy a good year, it'd be him.
Leonys Martin has somehow managed three errors in centerfield. Somehow, my eye goes back to his .362 average, four doubles and two home runs.
Julio Borbon's on-base percentage: .303. At this point, Chris Davis and Nelson Cruz were still killing Triple A.
Opponents are hitting .214 off Neil Ramirez. He's allowed three walks and struck out 14. Allowed no home runs in 15 innings.
Michael Bianucci has struck out 18 times and walked once. Ugh.
Frisco RoughRiders
Speaking of hoping for a good year, Engel Beltre has shown some signs. Already, six extra-base hits, a .286 average, and just 12 strikeouts compared to four walks. Baby steps.
Carlos Pimentel has struck out 16 in 10 innings and not allowed a run. At this pace, he'll go against everything we've ever known about him.
Johan Yan has four saves and a hold in six appearances.
Michael Olt, turning a corner? Strikeout pace has slowed. Went 2-3 with a homer last night.
Ryan Strausborger has three triples, but no doubles or home runs. He has 10 total hits.
Quietly, Barrett Loux starting off hot. Just two earned runs in 15 innings. He's 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA. No homers allowed.
Justin Grimm, too, is 3-0. Opponents hitting .115. Has allowed just 11 baserunners in 18 innings.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Teodoro Martinez just turned 20 March 16. He is hitting .292 early on and already has a home run. He had three all of last year in Low-A Hickory.
Cody Buckel is amazing. Quickly making a name for himself with a 0.60 ERA and 0.80 WHIP.
Lefty Chad Bell is starting his second year at Myrtle Beach in relief. Just a 1.69 ERA in 10 innings this season. Opponents hitting .189. Righties hitting .200.
My "click to pick" last year, Jared Hoying, is making up for things by hitting .283 with a .364 OBP.
Hickory Crawdads
Christopher Grayson's looking underrated for a 13th-round pick. Nine extra-base hits so far. Riding nine-game hit streak to start season. Simply crushing lefty pitching with a 1.683 OPS.
Hanser Alberto is hitting .370 to enter into the shortstop fray. Still 19 years old.
With that said, Rougned Odor and Luis Sardinas are hitting .302 and .289, respectively.
Nicholas Martinez has gotten 21 outs this season. Fifteen have come via strikeout. Still, opponents hitting .300 off of him for nine hits and five runs.
In Athletic Outfielder news, Zach Cone has four home runs, Jordan Akins two. Hitting .314 and .286, respectively.
Luke Jackson has 22 strikeouts in 14 innings.
Randol Rojas has allowed one run in 11.2 innings.
