Talks big -- needs to pitch big
The Texas Rangers lost to the Seattle Mariners, 4-3, last night. It was either a extremely poor good start or a pretty good awful start. Hard to tell.

Anyway, the news this morning is about C.J. Wilson. I don't know if he was asked or if he brought it up or whether it just flowed from typical questions about pitching Oakland, but Wilson went off.

There's at least one team Wilson won't be going to in free agency.

"I hate pitching there. The mound sucks. The fans suck. There are no fans there. The fans who are there are really adamant, but sometimes you'll go there and there's 6,000 fans. I just wish the fan base supported them a little more.

What Wilson states is not untrue. The Athletics have had poor attendance for a long time, a crappy stadium and it is chillier than most cities. Nothing the Athletics or its fans can do about that.

However, I do think Wilson's comments are a bit off target. Yes, they have poor attendance. They've also had really bad teams for a long time.

It's not that they've had just bad players. They typically have some very good players that toil on overall bad teams or they are traded for more young players that need to develop.

Athletics fans have been cheaped to death.

Wilson should also remember that Texas was not that different. We have crappy weather and up until last season, we had a shitty fanbase. I remember the games when 6,000 people showed up at the Ballpark. It happened. Suddenly, the Rangers start winning and people show up.

Who knew?
