The Dallas Cowboys did the deed with safety Abram Elam signing him to a one-year, $2.5 million deal today. He joins Kenyon Coleman as former Browns (and former Cowboys) getting contractsHe was signed for two reasons:
1. He was Rob Ryan's safety in Cleveland and "knows" the defense.
2. He's mildly better than Alan Ball.
The Cowboys "addressed" their secondary holes by committing one year and $5 million between Elam and Gerald Sensabaugh.
Both signed late and for much less than they anticipated. Mostly because they're not very good and they're both Dallas Cowboys. Good luck with the 2011 season.
In ancilliary points, Alan Ball will probably move to corner where he'll still suck, but he'll suck as the fifth corner and not the starting safety. He'll get even more time now that Terence Newman is making his annual visit to the injured reserve. He hurt his groin. Out six weeks. What would training camp be without Newman getting hurt. It's like Christmas.
As for the future, the Cowboys still have Barry Church and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on the team and both were getting snaps in practice the last week. Two guys to keep tabs on.
