The Dallas Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos in game one of the pre-season. Might as well hand the Lombardi Trophy over. It's all over. The best part of this game was Jason Garrett going for two at the end so it wouldn't go into overtime.
Nonetheless, there were some good things to come out of this game for the Cowboys and I'm sure the coaches are enjoying a nice ham sandwich watching film right at this moment, finding ways to improve.
The most resounding effect is the knee-jerk going on on Twitter and the Internet. Why isn't Stephen McGee the No. 2 quarterback? Lonyae Miller sucks! Dwayne Harris is the greatest ever! Martin Rucker needs to be on this team!
No doubt there were some good games played tonight and some awful games played. However, game one of the pre-season isn't the time to start making certain judgements on players -- one way or the other.
Here are guys that caught my attention, good and bad:
Felix Jones
Jones is that fancy sports car collecting dust in the garage. Too nice to take out, but too ridiculous to keep locked up. Make it or break it, Jones needs touches this season. Impressed me a lot in his few opportunities tonight.
Stephen McGee
I didn't think he was as good as you might think. Yes, he made some huge throws when it really mattered (in a game that really doesn't matter). It was the other throws that missed, horribly, that keep me in my seat. I think he has a legit argument to be the No. 2 quarterback on this team. Timeliness, however, doesn't do much for me. Consider that one touchdown and 76 yards came from Dwyane Harris' catch-and-dash.
Dwayne Harris
Made numerous great plays on the offense and even a kick return. He made the team tonight. Jerry Jones would be run out of town on a rail if he were cut.
Kevin Ogletree
Just two catches, but he was active. Noticable. Last thing you want to be is lost.
Raymond Radway
Night of his life. Touchdown catch. Returning kicks. Nice size (6-3, 193). Comes from a school that knows how to run (Abilene Christian). The dude just muddies up the receiver waters.
Bill Nagy/David Arkin
Quite honestly, I was at the game and didn't get to see the offensive line closely. I did not notice a ton of guys coming up the middle.
Clifton Geathers
Noticed him being disruptive on the defensive line all night long. At best, he gives you much-needed, cheap depth on the line. Well, I should say, at best, he allows you to drop Igor Olshansky.
Dallas Secondary
Don't know who were getting beat, but it seemed like there was a lot of it.
