C.J. Wilson hates Oakland ... Oakland hates the Texas Rangers

It hurt us more than it hurt you, Big Mac. Actually, that's untrue.
The Texas Rangers took a giant step forward this weekend sweeping a three-game set in Oakland.

The Rangers plowed the Athletics Friday and Saturday outscoring the offensively-offensive A's 16-2. Sunday proved a little testy as Matty Harrison lost a 6-2 lead only to have the bullpen keep it tied until Dave Murphy plated Craig Gentry for the 7-6 win.

The sweep was opportune because it allowed the Rangers to pick up two games on the California Angels, who lost a series in Toronto with Jered Weaver on the mound Saturday and a lead going into the ninth Sunday. It's a four-game lead with the HUGE four-game series this week in Los Angeles.

The Rangers are 23-12 in the AL West (the best in-division record in the American League). The Angels are a paltry 18-16. A shocking number considering the games against Oakland and Seattle.

Speaking of Oakland, they are pathetic. They are not good and they will not be good anytime soon. Mostly because they can't hit. Thus, those pitchers press and wind up allowing junk. The Athletics will not be good for another five years, at least.

Case in point: Sunday. The Rangers scored seven runs. Six of those runs were the direct result of a wild pitch, two bases-loaded walks, a two-run error and a sac fly.

Saturday's game in which Trevor Cahill took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, was undone by a gigantic error by second baseman Jemile Weeks.

All I can say is, it's good to have the A's on the schedule.

Notes:

1. Ian Kinsler left Oakland with four hits, two doubles and four RBI. So much for the road hitting struggles. Last 10: 10-40 - 7 runs - 13 RBI - 9 BBs - 2 SBs. Really have a great season.

2. Josh Hamilton had three hits in the series. All three game in the daylight.

3. Mike Young's 12-game hit streak came to an end. Althoug he walked three times. He hadn't walked in 14 games.

4. Young has six hitless games in July and August. Ridiculous.

5. The least likely hit streak: Yorvit Torrealba's 12-gamer. And he's not just going 1-4. He's got seven multi-hit games, including Sunday.

6. You won't find two least satisfying great starts than C.J. Wilson Friday night and Colby Lewis Saturday. Their numbers: 7 hits - 2 ERs - 3 BBs - 15 Ks. Yet, neither made it past the seventh inning due to pitch counts.

7. Rangers roughed up Brandon McCarthy and Rich Harden. Literally and figuratively.

8. Yoshi Tateyama was perfect in two outings in Oakland. Six walks in 34.1 innings. Hit 64 on the radar gun Sunday.

9. Rangers complete the sweep without hitting a home run.
