If I wanted, I could do a dozen posts a day about college sports and the Big XII mess.I decide not to because it A) bores me shitless and B) is really dumb, pointless, tedious, ever-changing and petty. But not Tom Petty.
The latest is that the SEC has invited Texas A&M to join the Deep South party next year and the Aggies, as it's been realized for, oh, three months, are wanting to go.
Unfortunately, Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas have pulled out their dicks for a good ol' fashioned pissing match. The schools -- the poor sister wives of the Big XII -- won't sign a waiver that states they won't sue when A&M jettisons.
I actually get why these schools are doing this. What kills me is that it's further evidence as to why this conference can't succeed despite having all of the intangibles going for it.
This conference -- or should I say, its teams -- are selfish, egotistical and perpetually self-serving. Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas or whoever could give a shit about the Big XII ... no more or no less than the bigger schools, including Texas and Texas A&M.
Yes, those smaller schools have a lot more to lose. They could wind up in the Big Ten or Pac 12. Or they could wind up in the WAC or Conference USA.
Still, despite this, those schools are as self-serving as Texas or Texas A&M. Everyone involved is looking out for themselves. Nothing in sports correlates to an actual marital divorce like this chaos.
This conference deserves to dissapate.

The Big XII apparently did go after Arkansas. Recently.
So, umm, why would the Root Hogs dump the hot girl for the ugly girl at this point? They'd get less money, they'd be probably better than Texas but with a 1/10 of the respect.
This should've happened four years ago. Dan Beebe and the rest of the Big XII are an idiots.

Rumors are flying around Oklahoma and Texas. OU is being courted by the Pac 12 and the SEC. Texas by the Pac 12.
What floored every fan that bleeds burnt orange or Boomer Sooner maroon is Bob Stoops' comments that he could envision the end of the so-called Red River Rivalry.
He cites the Oklahoma-Nebraska rivalry, the Big Eight match-up that was dependant on both teams being good. When either one wasn't good, the rivalry wasn't much to look at.
Texas-Oklahoma is not the same animal.
For one, I call bullshit on Stoops. He's setting the table and being political with his statements. To nonchalantly discuss the end of the annual game is him pandering to the media and fans. He's trying to get people upset and worried.
For one, that games is insanely important to the school in terms of money, exposure and recruiting. It's the game always highlighted on the schedule no matter how good or bad either team is.
Also, it's also important to the city of Dallas. Whether it's at the Cotton Bowl or JerryWorld, that game is a boon for north Texas as it is for the schools involved. Not saying that local politicians wouldn't screw this up (they've screwed up worse), but it behooves Texas and Oklahoma to make sure they keep that game going. If they wind up in different conferences, they'd be more than willing to back out of a home-and-home against Utah than miss each other.
