Dealin' C.J. Wilson
As fans of the Texas Rangers, we fall into traps.

I think we catch ourselves scoreboard watching instead of enjoying the great ball in front of us.

Every loss seems like the end of the world; another sore opened up.

We say things like, "Man, if Josh can just get going, this team will be set!"

All of that is -- outside of moderation -- I think, bad. I'd hate for us to make it to late-September, playoffs or no, and have spent too much time watching the Angels than we have the Rangers.

Every loss isn't the end. There is a game the next day, and who knows what that will bring.

And, no, this Rangers team is no more built around one player any more than the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, California Angels, Detroit Tigers or Philadelphia Phillies.

On any night, any Ranger can beat you. More often than not, about a dozen Rangers beat up on you. It doesn't matter if Josh Hamilton goes 0-4 or if Nelson Cruz misses time or if Alexi Ogando needs a couple of extra days' rest.

It doesn't matter. This is why I think -- and you do too -- the Rangers will win the AL West. The Rangers aren't starting guys on three days' rest. They are, in fact, giving their starters extra time off. They are adding arms to the bullpen. They are getting heavy lifting off guys that don't get 500 at-bats a season.

This is the 2011 Texas Rangers. Do not let them pass you buy.

The flippin' magic continued tonight as C.J. Wilson pitched a complete game shutout gem against the the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-0.

Truth is, Wilson wasn't at his sharpest. Especially early he was missing the miniscule strike zone and allowed some baserunners early on. Wilson faced the minimum in six of the nine innings. It was his 15th win of the year.

Wilson is 5-1 in his last six. His numbers in those six:

39.2 IP - 29 hits - 11 runs - 5 HRs - 10 BBs - 33 Ks.

His numbers in the five wins:

34.2 - 19 hits - 5 runs - 1 HR - 9 BBs - 31 Ks.

The Rangers are 81-62. No matter what, they will not finish lower than .500. That should still mean something.

Notes:
1. Dave Murphy has 21 hits in his last 11 games. Those include four doubles, a triple and four home runs and 16 RBI. His average has jumped from .239 to .271.

2. Ian Kinsler has five homers and nine RBI in last six games. Not that its important, but he has an outside shot at 30-30 (26 home runs, 23 steals).

3. Adrian Beltre has not turn things up since his return. Still, maintaining a 12-game hit streak and five RBI in his six games back.

4. Rangers collected four double plays.

5. Magic number: 18 (for now).

6. Magic number: 18. The number of shutouts the Rangers have pitched this season, a franchise record.
