Aggies send SMU back to Dallas hurting
I can't believe it! It's Tuesday and the college football week is over!?

Yikes. Unless I have six straight days of college football, I don't want to live.

Give the professionals credit: Yes, the Thursday kick-off is such a gimmick and money and attention grab, but at least it ends there (for now). College football started last Thursday and had games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Money) night.

Frankly, I don't have time for it and I can't imagine many people do. I don't think people have problems with slating Thursday and Saturday for college games. But it's not like there's not a lot more going on. Of course, I'm sure billions watched Miami-Maryland last night.

SFA 83, McMurry State 6
Three SFA quarterbacks: 45-63 for 507 yards. Had this game gone further they would have put me in the game.

Florida International 41, North Texas 16
Dan McCarney's era starts with a whimper. At least the new stadium is nice. Miraculously, the Mean Green scored 16 points. Two fumble recoveries for touchdowns and a safety. Remarkably inept.

Baylor 50, TCU 48
Keep on telling me that the regular season in college football doesn't matter. Then, tell the Baylor Bears or TCU Horned Frogs. That was a grinding game and chances are it will be forgotten in 10 weeks. A huge win for the Bears to beat a ranked team and also to have Robert Griffin look as good as he did. He's the type of player that can get you eight wins and cause some excitement in Waco. TCU's heir apparent to Andy Dalton, Casey Pachall, looked placcid for three quarters and electric in one. Interesting to look forward to.

Missouri 17, Miami (of Ohio) 6
The Tigers are bound to take the Big XII or X North division. Sleptwalk through their first game. Committed nine penalties and held lowly Miami of Ohio to 270 points and looked completely unimpressive doing it.

Oklahoma State 61, Lousiana-Lafayette 34
Justin Blackmon is back. Eight catches and 144 yards. But the four touchdowns went to other receivers. Cowboys running back Joseph Randle ran for 124 yards. With the game in doubt (see: first half) Oklahoma State allowed 10 points. Against inferior opponent, the Cowboys looked good.

Iowa State 20, Northern Iowa 19
If Northern Iowa is five percent better, they win by three touchdowns. The Cyclones were AWWWWFULLLLLL.

Kansas State 10, Eastern Kentucky 7
Yes, three Big XII or X North teams beat Division IV by a total of 15 points. Yikes. Get Nebraska on the phone again.

Kansas 42, McNeese State 24
Turner Gill is turning this thing around. Jayhawks' Jordan Webb completed seven of 10 passes, three for touchdowns. Riley Dodge alert!! For McNeese State. Threw: 9-14 for 107 yards and a touchdown and ran 11 times for 30 yards.

Texas Tech 50, Texas State 10
The Raiders scored nine points in first half. Scored 41 in final two quarters. Tuberville-ball is up and running. Eric Stephens ran 21 times for 110 yards. But somewhere Mike Leach's ghost still abides: Seth Doege threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Tech, you're still irrelevant.

Texas 34, Rice 9
The most surprising part of this game wasn't seeing Jaxon Shipley and Case McCoy or the underwhelming Garrett Gilbert, but that Fozzie Whittaker is still on this team. Did he get an eighth year of eligibility? If the Texas defense is back, watch out (I know ... it's RICE!).

Oklahoma 47, Tulane 14
For week one performances against bad teams, OU takes the cake. They looked spectacular.

Texas A&M 46, SMU 14
I think week one is actually a nice litmus test for teams. How many times have we seen a superior A&M team flounder in their first couple of games, potentially losing one? They simply beat the shit out of SMU at Kyle Field. Doing what they're supposed to do. SMU might want to rethink the Big XII or X thing.
