What's going on in Elvis' mind as he's making that face? The one advantage the California Angels had on the Texas Rangers in the final month was strength of schedule.
The Angels had the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins and such. The Rangers had the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
That advantage is slowly going away. The Rangers took two of three from the Rays and then brought forth a complete annihilation of the Boston Red Sox (at Fenway) tonight, 10-0.
This behind a brilliantly pristine start from Derek Holland, his 13th win, which are becoming more and more frequent with the guy. His line: 7 IP - 2 hits - 0 ER - 0 BBs - 6 Ks - 98 pitches.
It is said that the Boston Red Sox can be beat with a left-handed starter. It's the moments when Holland is least hittable that we all get most excited, which is quite obvious, but when Holland looks really good, he doesn't look the same as when Colby Lewis or Matt Harrison look good.
Holland is just more dominating. Like you immediately that you'll get nothing off of him. That was tonight. The BoSox saw pretty early that Holland was locating everything, throwing a ton of strikes and the lefty factor reared its head again.
It was the Rangers' 17th shutout of the season, tying a franchise mark. It was also the 12th shutout on the road, the most since Atlanta had 12 in 1998.
The Rangers are now 4 1/2 up on the Angels.

2. We got a look at Leonys Martin for the first time in the Majors. Managed a single pinch hitting for Josh Hamilton.
3. It was a honor to the Round Rock Express. Merkin Valdez, Craig Gentry, Matt Treanor, Andres Blanco and Esteban German all got time.
4. Elvis Andrus hit his fourth homer of the year. Also drove in a pair, walked twice and scored four runs. Stole his 34th base.
5. Ian Kinsler hit his third homer in his last two games. Scored runs Nos. 95 and 96. Twenty-four homers on the season.
6. David Murphy goes 4-5 including a solo jack. Has a seven-game hitting streak going with 10 RBI in those games. Average up to .263.
7. Ranger are 35-32 on the road.
