RIP
If you've been a sports fan, you've probably wondered why there aren't more transport accidents involving professional or even amateur athletes.

Consider all the professional, individual minor league, semi-pro, independent, college and high school sporting teams there are in the world and then look at how many big-scale accidents there are involving a whole team or organization.

Then it happens and you feel like shit.

The Kontinental Hockey League team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl were involved in an airplane crash along the Volga River killing 36, including "former" Dallas Stars defenseman Karlis Skrastins.

If you consider that Skrastins left the Stars in order to play in his homeland make this even more depressing. Skrastins was signed in 2009 to a two-year deal and played out his contract playing in 153 games and notching 21 points and a -5. He played 12 seasons in the NHL.

By all accounts, Skrastins left the Stars. Although I don't know if they would have offered another contract or whether or not a contract would have precluded him from playing overseas in the summer. No, I don't know if he would've save his own life by staying in the NHL.

Skrastins was 37.
