Sweet Colby, deliver us
I might not survive this American League Divisional Series.

The Texas Rangers -- by the smallest of hairs by their chinny chin chins -- took a 2-1 advantage in the series thanks to a 4-3 win today.

The story: Colby Lewis. As anxious and nervous as I've been, I felt relatively good about tonight. Lewis has pitched better as of late and we'd be remiss if we forgot what he did a year ago against Tampa and New York.

Lewis is now 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA in the post-season. He allowed just one hit, two walks and a run (the one hit being Desmond Jennings' first home run) in six innings today.

It was easy at first. He retired nine straight before Jennings led off the fourth inning with the one hit, the one homer.

And it wasn't always easy. Later in that inning, B.J. Upton got on base and wound up on third until he struck out Evan Longoria, Matt Joyce and Johnny Damon. He then retired six of the last seven.

What I find interesting is that Ron Washington is very quick to go to his bullpen. Both Derek Holland and Lewis finished six innings with a pitch count in the early 90s. And they've left the game pitching as well as they did in the first inning or third inning.

I love our bullpen. However, now is not the time to deviate from 162 games of doing something one way, getting that extra inning. Pitching Lewis and Holland one more inning shortens the game for the bullpen and puts less stress on them to get 12 outs.

Now, the Rangers get two shots at winning one game.

Notes:
1. Anyone look more than a ballplayer from the Dead Ball Era than Mike Napoli. The engine making this thing run at this point.

2. Craig Gentry's buying himself more and more at bats. Got on base three times and stole a pair of bases. A No. 9 hitting covering a lot of ground in center and getting on base rewrites the whole narrative of a game.

3. One game from the ALCS and Mike Young is batting .167. Adrian Beltre, .091. Although Young was robbed of a probable RBI double today.

4. Upton, Longoria and Joyce, combined: 0-8, five strikeouts.

5. Neftali Feliz with four salty outs. Making up for Mike Adams' three walks and a hit. He won't do that again. I don't think.
