It's Tuesday. I've yet to revisit the college football weekend. Yikes.Oklahoma 55, Texas 17
I realize that every OU fan is tickled about the win. Any win against Texas is a good win, and far be it from me to take this away from anyone. However, it was clear how far apart these two teams are. OU probably should have put up 70. That defense is at least a year away. David Ash or Case McCoy are probably two years away. Those two looked like lost puppies at a junkyard. They didn't know which way was up, and considering they were facing high school defenses a year ago, the fact that they left the Cotton Bowl with all four limbs and a beating heart can be deemed a success.
OU, meanwhile, are just fantastic. However, I do not think they've been appropriately tested (as it turns out, Florida State ain't that great) and, frankly, they may never be truly tested until they face LSU or Alabama in the national championship game. They didn't run the ball well and a good defense will force you to be balanced. It'll also be interesting to see them go up against a top-of-the-line offense.
Texas A&M 45, Texas Tech 40
Remember, Aggies, that game meant a hell of a whole lot more to Tech than it did you. Also note that Tech outscored A&M in the second half 20-14, and one of those A&M touchdowns came off a blocked field-goal attempt. Tech had 11 more first downs (including five off A&M penalties), 130 more yards and somehow lost. If you want sick, Seth Doege has 17 touchdowns and one (1!!) interception in 227 attempts.
Oklahoma State 70, Kansas 28
I love the flow of college games. Kansas led this game with 12 minutes left in the first quarter, 7-0. At half, they were down 56-7. I would claim the Cowboys ran up the score -- they certainly weren't running the ball -- but they did have the second and third team offense out for half the game. Twelve different Cowboys caught a pass. Oklahoma State scored 28 off four Kansas turnovers.
Kansas State 24, Missouri 17
After watching a little bit of K-State this year, I'm prepared to call them good. Not great. Certainly one of the 25 best teams in the nation. Considering the state of things of late, that's not such a bad thing. It's Bill Snyder doing what he does: The bus-driving quarterback (Collin Klein), the stud running back (taking over for Daniel Thomas, John Hubert) and a salty defense (112 yards rushing allowed, just 326 total).
Baylor 49, Iowa State 26
If you're Baylor, and I can promise you eight to 10 wins a year, a bowl game, score 50 points a game and perpetual presence in the top 25 for 50 of the next 75 years, you take it right? Baylor will never really compete against Texas or Oklahoma. But why not be entertaining? What's so wrong with going in, never getting laughed at, having national noteriety and winning more than losing? Terrance Ganaway had 200 yards rushing. James White out of Skyline had 145 yards rushing for the Cyclones.
TCU 27, San Diego State 14
In a "down" year (and it is), TCU's going to dick around, contend in the conference and win eight or nine games. Despite the win, a very poor outing for the Frogs. Four turnovers, Casey Paschall was very ordinary. Run game popped though.
North Texas 31, Florida Atlantic 17
The Mean Green buried the Owls with a 24-point third quarter, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns off someone named Graham Wilbert (their back-up was David Kooi). Meanwhile, North Texas had just 237 total yards as they took advantage of four turnovers.
Sam Houston State 45, SFA 10
SFA went up 3-0 at Reliant Stadium. Then allowed 45 unanswered. Five turnovers. SFA football does suck.
