TCU, coming home

The Big XII (X ... IX) invited the TCU Horned Frogs to join their ranks starting next season.

It would put the conference at 10 teams starting next season after the departure of Texas A&M in July 2012. Although, this does not account for the possible departure of Missouri to the SEC or Big Ten.

Maybe adding TCU will help keep Mizzou.

TCU had agreed to join the Big East next season, however, they weren't officially in despite having apparently to pay $5 million to get out. If they weren't in, why do they have to pay to get out?

Anyway, excellent, smart move all the way around. Should've happened 12 months ago. It strengthens the conference, keeps recruits in-state, keeps money in-state and puts TCU in the big-time for college sports, especially baseball and football.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram story cites BYU, Boise State, Louisville and West Virginia as other targets for the Big X (IX ... XII) in an attempt to at least get to 12 teams by next fall.

As for the Big East, no word on where talks are to add their rumored teams, including SMU. As of right now, they'd have six football teams in their conference for 2012.
