Real Tigers, excellent j-school
Just as the college sports carousel started to slow down, it's sped back up again.

Whoever makes decisions at the University of Missouri voted to allow the athletic director to seek new opportunites in terms of a conference.

Meaning: They really want out of the Big XII, despite the conference getting new leadership and seeking to reboot.

Mizzou, by all accounts, is hoping the Big Ten comes a-knocking. In fact, they wanted to jet last year but they took Nebraska to the dance instead. Instead of pulling a Carrie with pig's blood, they waited. Big Ten is saying there's "no interest" which is bullshit, as it turns out, in realignment talk.

As a second fiddle, the Tigers would take up shop with the SEC, who would need another team to square things up after Texas A&M joins the ranks next July.

On the heels of beating TCU at Amon Carter last Saturday, reports are flowing that the Big East's expansion may include our very own SMU. Finally maybe getting back with the big boys.

Central Florida, Navy, Air Force and Tempa are other options after the ACC sniped Syracuse and Pitt several weeks ago.

This is good, if things stay the same. SMU and TCU in the same conference makes sense for both schools. It, if nothing else, opens up another non-conference spot on the schedule every year. Making them conferencemates probably stirs the pot -- or the Iron Skillet ... if you will -- even more in terms of forging a valid rivalry in the Metroplex.

It's good for SMU because they need to start amping up their competition. It's becoming clearer and clearer that they are a legit up-and-coming program and they will only get better avoiding the Memphis Tigers and playing a team like Rutgers. It will only make them better.

The TCU-SMU rivalry may not need too much riling up.

Gary Patterson got his purple panties in a wad Tuesday going after alleged negative comments SMU head coach June Jones had about TCU after the 40-33 win in Fort Worth.

Anyone with a brain realizes that Jones was complimenting Patterson and the Horned Frogs. Patterson took it completely the wrong way and decided to dredge up the "assistance" that TCU has given SMU in terms of facilities and various and sundry items.

Sounds to me that Patterson is a sore-ass loser and kind of expects SMU to roll over every year in October.

Former Texas Longhorn starting quarterback Garrett Gilbert -- surprise, surprise, surprise!! -- is going to transfer.

Good luck at Texas State.
