Eye on the ball
I intentionally avoided the topic of the Texas Rangers all weekend because I frankly can't handle the tension.

Last year, the Rangers were playing with house money. Every win, every series was like manna from heaven and I didn't sweat the small stuff and, oddly, it didn't seem that heartbreaking when the San Francisco Giants were piling on top of each other at the Ballpark.

This year is different. Every pitch, every out, every decision makes my brain go completely crazy. I can't handle it. I have fits of bad temper, throwing things, a stream of vulgarities flowing like the Nile. My heart beats like a bass drum in the high school band. My extremities start shaking. I'm a mess.

So, I spent 24 hours after Friday night's 9-0 stinker completely divorced from baseball. Even game 2 -- an 8-6 win -- was melancholy as I struggled and forced myself to watch and keep up.

Deep thoughts:

C.J. Wilson
Dallas-Fort Worth has had some shitty teams and some shitty players in its history. But none of them have almost literally undone their pants, dropped trou and taken a shit on the playing field quite like Wilson. Yes, the offense was shut out by Matt Moore (and, frankly, they didn't have a clue for the first 13 innings of this series), but, man, Wilson was AWFUL. Ceej is a favorite of mine and I want him to be a Ranger for the next five seasons. Chances are, the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox are going to roll in and overpay him and I'm ready for that reality. However, Wilson is paid well now and he's going to be paid well in the future. He's got one job. Not to pitch consecutive complete game shutouts. It's to get Kelly fuckin' Shoppach out. That's it. Do your fucking job.

Koji Uehara
Is on hiatus for a while. No reason why Alexi Ogando should not have pitched that seventh inning.

Evan Longoria
The next time he sees a strike should be that pitcher's last day as a Texas Ranger.

Michael Young
Of all the people that should have no issue getting the bat on the ball is our fearless "team leader." Got a pair of hits Saturday after crapping the bed Friday night. He hit .150 a year ago against Tampa. Never seen a guy bitch so much about never winning and we get his ass in the playoffs and he starts swinging like Benji Gil.

James Shields
Kudos to the Rangers line-up here. Shields has had their number all year. Saturday, after getting behind early, the line-up remained patient and working Shields over.

Derek Holland
A year ago we watched him meltdown in the World Series. This year, we watched him grow up in a "must-win" against Tampa. Those were 15 big-boy outs.

Mitch the Bitch
That dude ... Just when you kinda forget about him, he parks one in right field.

Unis
No coincidence that the Rangers win Saturday wearing the red caps on the white jerseys. A fucking sharp look.
