The five guys outrighted by the Rangers -- Omar Beltre, Eric Hurley, Andres Blanco, Esteban German and Merkin Valdez -- have all opted for free agency.I don't know what this means in regards to their association with the Rangers. I assume they can re-sign at some point, but are, I guess, looking at their options.
I'm wont to simply disregard the departures of all of these guys. Valdez had a little pop in his time with the big league club late in the season. Beltre, I thought, had a lot last season before injuries derailed things.
Hurley was the club's best pitching prospect at one point and he's just 26. Blanco I thought was a sensible and valuable infield bench player.
I can see why Hurley and Beltre might look for better opportunities elsewhere. I figure Blanco and Valdez are useful on some level.

Mason Tobin was taken off the 40-man roster and offered back to the California Angels -- the team the Rangers took Tobin from in the Rule 5 draft. They didn't want him. The Rangers are sitting at 31 on the 40-man.

Yesterday, we discussed the possibility of the Rangers losing front-office gurus and dugout talent. It all came to a head after the Angels hired Scott Servais as assistant general manager today.
He was the director of player development for the Rangers since Jon Daniels was hired. Look at the talent. He was a part of that.
He'll be a general manager in five years. Hopefully he doesn't help the Angels.
Also, the Milwaukee Brewers hired the Rangers' amateur scout Andy Pratt as a pro scout.

The Rangers are one of several teams looking at Jamie Moyer as he comes back from missing the 2011 season. He's 49, about old enough to be Jon Daniels' dad.

In news that surprises no one, Billy Beane is willing to listen to any trade offers on just about anyone on his roster including Trevor Cahill or Gio Gonzalez. Mmmm.
No interest in Jair Jurrjens, by the way.
