The Dallas Stars are ridiculous

Ryan Kesler getting Fiddled
I'm of the opinion now that this can't end well for the Dallas Stars. Hockey's a fickle, fickle bitch.

The Stars ran out their back-up goalie against the big, bad Vancouver Canucks and won, 5-2, last night. What the hell, right?

The Stars are 3-0 in March and 7-0-1 of late propelling them to tops in the Pacific and third in the conference.

Despite all of this, the Phoenix Coyotes are just two points back. Ninth-place Los Angeles is three points back. Granted, I don't think the Kings have the offense to go on a tear and I generally feel that the other teams in between are no better (if not worse) than the Stars, you never know what could happen.

The first time the Stars lose two straight, they're back fighting for a playoff spot. The question isn't whether the Kings, Coyotes or Flames can catch up, but if the Stars can avoid losing two straight. Even if the Stars cool down, it'll be a true test as to whether they can avoid a losing streak at any point. Winning despite everything shows true mettle.

As for last night, it's more of perfect play up and down the line-up and left to right on the ice. The goaltending was good; the defense was better. Offensively, the big four (Jamie Benn, Mike Ribeiro, Mike Ryder, Loui Eriksson) scored eight of the potential 15 points (assists, goals).

Since Feb. 23, Eriksson's posted five goals, six assists and a +9. Ryder has five goals, four assists and a +9. Ribs is a slacker: three goals, seven assists and a +5.

Who needs Brad Richards anyway?

Right now, Joe Nieuwendyk is looking like a genius.
