Double team and not in a good way
I think Dallas professional sports teams like having the dirt shoveled on the grave before they jump up and bite us all in the ass.

Not unlike the Dallas Stars, the Dallas Mavericks are undergoing a bit of a resurgence, right when we had them all but counted out.

Embarking on a harrowing 12-day stretch of nothing but monsters of the Western Conference, the Mavericks are 2-0 with probably their two best wins of the season.

Last night it was a 112-95 whipping of the Denver Nuggets. Granted, the Nuggets were emasculated during the trade deadline that saw their only fearful player -- Nene -- shipped to Washington, but it's still the pesky Nuggets on the road after beating San Antonio two nights before.

It was complete. It was beautiful. Dirk Nowitzki probably set the standard for his season with 33 points, 11 rebounds and six assists all on 12 of 19 shooting. The Mavericks shot 53 percent and doled out a season-best 33 assists. Brandan Wright was good. Jason Kidd was excellent. Roddy Beaubois and Ian Mahinmi were as good as any French teammates in NBA history (totally unprovable).

Even the defense showed up for a half. The Nuggets shot over 50 percent the entire first half. In the second, the Nuggets were outscored 49-39 and they wound up shooting 43 percent.

If the last month instilled zero confidence in this team, the last two games should gain some of that back.

Notes:
1. Lamar Odom shot 2-7. He did grab nine boards, a season-high. Yah.

2. On the road, Jason Terry shoots 35 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point. At home, it's 50 percent and 45 percent.

3. The Mavs are officially 2-0 with the "small" line-up with Roddy B at the two and Vince Carter at the three.

4. Not that he needs more minutes, but doesn't it feel like Yi Jianlian fills up the box score when he plays? Granted, it's trash time, but he had three boards and two points in two minutes last night. He's averaging seven minutes an appearance this year and two boards and three points per. I don't know. Who puts out more effort, him or Odom?

5. Jason Kidd logged free-throw attempts Nos. 19 and 20 last night.
