Someone needs a spa dayThey threaten to strip credentials if you're not cool and they just yank Lamar Odom around to cover up a crotch-punch loss to the worst team in the NBA.
It's the most use Odom's gotten all year.
The night after getting beat 97-92 by the New Orleans Hornets -- who have four home wins all year -- the Mavericks announced that Odom wasn't in fact going to "rehab" or whatever with the Frisco Legends and, instead, join the Mavericks tonight for the Utah Jazz.
I would only assume that Odom's D-League career was cut short only because the Mavs' are depending on Ian Mahinmi and Brian Cardinal for frontcourt depth, they're playing back to back and maybe -- just maybe -- Odom's switch has flipped.
All of this comes a day after Dirk Nowitzki had some curious quotes about Odom and Rick Carlisle's non-confrontational dam broke with some icy comments:
"Our fans want to know that Lamar's in, our players want to know that Lamar's in. And it's not about how many points he's scoring or rebounds. Those things are a factor but our people, our players, want to see the guy playing like his pants are on fire. And we haven't seen that so far. That's got to change."
So, yes, Carlisle is not blind. He sees what has happened and he's had it with the guy. No way this ends well.
Right now, the Mavericks are not in a good place. Losing four straight is bad. Making the fourth against the awful Hornets is worse. Apologists are now pointing at the schedule and age as the reason for all of this. I guess. The Hornets were without their four best players. The Mavericks were without their ninth best player. Easy arithmetic.
The Mavs were pushed off the ball all night. Chris Kaman became the fourth straight center to basically eat Brendan Haywood's lunch (I'm sure Carlisle has some choice words here too). The Mavs were outrebounded 50-34.
On top of that, on any given night, you are probably not getting anything extra from Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Haywood. Some nights there's something. Others, not.
Add to the fact that Jason Terry could throw the basketball from space and not hit the Earth. He's shot like shit for about a month or so. That's got to change.
Essentially, the Mavericks are in a really bad spot right now. And, of all people, Lamar fuckin' Odom is Mighty Mouse. YIKES.
