The pretty toy, distracting all of us
The Indianapolis Colts cut Peyton Manning yesterday. The story quickly turned into who was going to sign the certain Hall of Famer next.

The Dallas Cowboys even sniffing Manning's jock seems utterly ridiculous, which makes it highly probable that owner and GM Jerry Jones will do just that.

Rick Gosselin says the Cowboys should "kick" the proverbial "tires." He adds that Manning is an upgrade over Tony Romo and Manning has what Romo lacks: Leadership.

Unfortunately, Manning -- upon joining the Cowboys -- would lack what Romo lacked: A steady offensive line, inconsistent receivers, some of whom did not know where to line up, a very unreliable defense and questionable coaches.

Manning is fantastic. He's one of my all-time favs. He would have gone 8-8 with the Cowboys last season.

Fact is, as much as I've not bought into Romo as being a winner, quarterback is not the Cowboys' problem. Jones shouldn't get distracted with Manning or some high-profile receive. He needs to be up all night watching tape of offensive linemen, inside linebackers and cornerbacks.

Jones is like a five-year-old kid: Got to keep him focused.
