It wasn't as good as the first.

Yu Darvish struggled in his second Spring Training start, an irregular 8-8 tie to the Cleveland Indians, failing to throw many strikes.

No one should panic. But if we're going to praise the good, we must admonish the bad. Chances are, Darvish was trying some stuff, locating his off-speed repertoire and all that kind of jazz. Still, throwing strikes is throwing strikes. The Rangers have gotten to two World Series behind this mantra and damned if we forsake it now.

Darvish managed three innings and 61 pitches. Thirty-two were strikes, and 29 were balls. He walked four, struck out three and allowed two runs. Ron Washington could've yanked him in the third and no one would have blamed him. Instead, he let Darvish work. Induced a double-play and got Travis Hafner on a deep flyball to center.

Darvish is going to learn a lot. Yesterday was part of the process. He's going to have to learn to beat Major-League hitting on nights when you have shitty stuff.

Maybe Darvish wasn't the problem. The Rangers spotted the pitching staff a 7-0 only to have Darvish, Koji Uehara (you have to wonder if the Rangers missed the train on trading him), Joe Beimel and Mike Adams allowed two runs each.

Maybe, just maybe, it was one of those days.

The Good
Robbie Ross with another spectacular inning: 10 pitches, eight strikes.

A huge reason Koji Uehara is still in the mix: Historically, he's gotten left-handed batters out. Got three of four yesterday.

Triples apiece for Engel Beltre and Mike Olt.

Tanner Scheppers reached into the mid- to high-90s on his fastball. Pitched a scoreless, walk-less frame.

Yorvit Torrealba punctuated a two-hit by saving Darvish's ass and throwing out two base stealers.

Prospect Roman Mendez got four outs and allowed just a walk.

The Bitch with another two hits.

The Bad
Craig Gentry -- injury prone, to say the least -- sprained his wrist in the field yesterday. Remember, it's Spring Training.

Yangervis Solarte homered. Ideal utility infield guy. Can't play a lick of shortstop. Next.
