Profar, so good
This is probably the best news I've had all day, however, that is not really say too much.

The Texas Rangers released four more minor leaguers today including infielder Renny Osuna, who, to be perfectly honest with you, wasn't the worst professional ballplayer in the world.

Unfortunately, Osuna is potentially blocking arguably one of the best non-big league players in the world in Jurickson Profar. The 19-year-old is slated to start the season in Double A Frisco, skipping the High A level in Myrtle Beach. Shame for fans of the Pelicans.

Good news for those of us in North Texas. For the first time, we'll be able to see Profar just about any time we want going up against top-notch minor-league pitching. Profar's ascendency is a good way to start a fistfight among Rangers know-it-alls. At this pace seeing him sometime in 2013 is not out of the question and Osuna is not the only guys in the way.

Double unfortunate for Osuna is that those other guys happen to be Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus, both of whom should be around in 2013 and 2014. It's a great problem to have and, frankly, a problem to really consider when the day comes. Profar is still a long way from Arlington. Still needs to prove himself in the minors.

Still, would love to pay a little tribute to Osuna here. The 26-year-old is/was a career .293 hitter in the minors with decent plate discipline and he wound up playing every infield position. However, he had no power (peaked with 39 doubles in 2008 and 10 home runs in 2011), no real speed and nothing exceptional that could help him jump more talented guys in a deep farm system. In other words, he'd be a great Houston Astro.
