Vincour!The 21-year-old forward's been up and down with the Dallas Stars the last two seasons playing in 60 total games when injuries required his services. All of this despite being the franchise's probably best prospect having proved his mettle in the minors.
Certainly, he proved his value last night. Vincour scored the tying goal in the third period with a minute and change to force the Stars' affair with the San Jose Sharks into overtime. It was Vincour in the shootout that scored the lone goal in the fifth round. Stars win 4-3 pushing their record to 8-1-1 and putting a little distance more between them and San Jose.
Vincour is the unsuspecting hero when the Stars needed one. They lost a 1-0 lead when Torrey Mitchell scored with two seconds left in the first period. Then it was two periods of fighting back coming back from a 2-1 and then a 3-2 deficit.
Also, the Stars lost two defensemen mid-game -- Sheldon Souray, Mark Fistric -- forcing the remaining blue liners -- Alex Goligoski, Stephane Robidas, Phil Larsen, Trevor Daley -- to notch nearly 30 minutes of ice time apiece.
No word on Fistric and Souray. However, Brenden Morrow is reportedly on his way back. A good problem to have. Too much goodness.
Notes:
1. Mike Ryder scored goal No. 29. Anyone who had him leading the team deserves a gold star.
2. Nine Stars and Sharks either missed or had their shootout attempts saved. Vincour's was the only one to touch net.
3. Nearly 17,000 attended the game at the American Airlines Center. Dallas loves a winner, indeed.
4. Jamie Benn became the third Star with 20 goals. Mike Ribeiro with a good chance (16) and Eric Nystrom with an outside shot (16).
5. Stars blanked the Sharks on the power play. Stars now have the 10th best penalty kill ... after trading their -- arguably -- best penalty killer (Nick Grossmann).
6. Finally, the Stars are above .500 in goal differential: 183-183.
