BatzFact is, Feliz is still very young and he's barely worked as a starter in the upper echelons of the minor leagues, more or less the Majors, where hitters are very, very good.
Feliz made his first Spring Training start yesterday and it was hit and miss. Adam Dunn connected on a three-run homer in the first inning, when Feliz threw 28 pitches.
The next inning, Feliz threw eight pitches in a perfect frame.
Feliz is working on become a starter, a more complete pitcher. He threw 11 change-ups (something he never did as a reliever) and nine sliders yesterday. He threw 16 fastballs.
For perspective, 80 percent of his pitches as closer last year were fastballs, according to Evan Grant. Ironically, the two big hits off him yesterday (including Dunn's homer) were 95-mph fastballs. The 100-mph, high-heat days are probably over.

One guy I'm ready to part ways with is Michael Kirkman, I guy I've never had much faith in. He pitched two innings yesterday allowing three runs and four hits. Most of the damage came against lefties, guys he's supposed to get out.
The Good
Joe Nathan made his debut. A sterling frame in relief.
Yoshi Tateyama also made his spring debut. He matched Nathan's effort.
Another two hits from Elvis Andrus. Hitting .700 this spring.
Attempting to match Alberto Gonzalez' output, Luis Hernandez had two hits. Both battling for a back-up infield role.
The Bad
Mark Lowe is battling for a role on this team. A lot of arms in that bullpen. Allowed two walks. Throwing hard is easy. Throwing to the point that you know where it's going is not.
Craig Gentry: Hitless.
Mitch Moreland and Conor Jackson have teamed up for two total hits.
