What's the deal with the Dallas Cowboys offensive line?

The band's breaking up
Old news, but the Dallas Cowboys cut offensive guard Kyle Kosier the other day leaving just one remnant from the 2010 unit (Doug Free) on the team.

I do not understand the reasoning here outside of change for change's sake. Kosier was due just $2.25 million this year and it saves the team $1.55 million off the cap. In professional sports, this is change found in the couch cushions.

Granted, Kosier was no pup. At 33, he was a senior member of the line. He missed 13 games in 2008. Ironically, it was during this stretch that reports floated around about how vital Kosier was to the offensive line not only in skill and protection, but leadership and cohesiveness. He missed three games in 2010 and started all 16 in 2011.

Instead, apparently, the Cowboys signed Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings not for depth, but as replacements. Granted, they're getting younger. Sort of. Livings is 30. Bernadeau is 26.

They're not exactly getting better. Bernadeau has made a total of 20 starts in the NFL, including just one in 2011. Livings is considered one of the worst guards in the NFL.

Different? Yes. Younger? Yes. Healthier? Yes. Less hairy? Yes.

But, as it stands, the Dallas Cowboys are no better at guard then they were a week ago.
