Alright, all we need is another 95 of those. Just. Like. That. The Texas Rangers started their defense of the American League pennant with a cutesy 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in front of a salty crowd at the renovated Ballpark.
It had a little bit of everything: Josh Hamilton hitting during the day, Ian Kinsler giving a flip about his undone contract extension, Colby Lewis dealing, the bullpen dominating and Joe Nathan proving he still has a little something.
I guess the big story is the pitching. We should never forsake pitching nor should we ever take it for granted.
Lewis was up for the opening day start. He went six innings allowing seven hits and two runs. Most importantly, he limited the homers (1), the walks (1) and looked dominant (nine strikeouts ... and a lot of dumb poses from the hitters).
Then the bullpen. Alexi Ogando, Mike Adams and Nathan went like this:
3 IP - 1 hit - 0 runs - 0 walks - 4 strikeouts - 41 pitches.
I don't need to explain just how good they were. It was clockwork not unlike how it's been the last two seasons. If day No. 1 is anything like 2010 and 2011, then I think we can expect more of the same.
