Don't worry, JET, I'm sure the Blazers were impressed with you
When was the last time the Dallas Mavericks had a good win?

Try March 19. Not only was it good in terms of the here and now, but also when you consider that the season is going to end really soon.

It was a 17-point whipping of the Denver Nuggets on the road, 112-95. That's it.

They've swapped wins for losses (5-5 in last 10). The wins include beating Orlando, which looked good at the time until you learn that the star player's quit and he wants the head coach fired and the head coach learned about it, Houston on the tail-end of a back-to-back and Memphis playing for the third night of three in a row.

And the Mavericks didn't exactly blow these teams out, either.

The Mavericks turned in another turd last night losing to the Portland Trailblazers -- who went bad quickly this season -- 99-97. Lamarcus Aldridge hit a buzzer-beating jumper for the win in overtime.

Fact is, the Mavericks blew a 12-point halftime lead by getting pounded 30-10 in the third quarter. Ray Felton looked like a Hall of Famer going for 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Aldridge added 25 points and 14 boards, including six on the offensive boards.

The Blazers had 14 offensive rebounds for the game. And there it is. All at home in front of 20,000 at the American Airlines Center.

The Mavericks are now playing for more than "playoff positioning" or pride or whatever it is that gets them to the gym in the morning.

With wins from Houston and Denver, the Mavericks are just a half game in front of both, who are Nos. 7 and 8 in the Western Conference. The Mavericks have Memphis (a full game up) tonight.

I don't see the Mavericks having much of a shot against anyone in the playoffs. I don't think they really want to see Oklahoma City or San Antonio. Not that it really matters.
