The Dallas Stars' goal on this mini-roadie was simple: Four points. Doesn't matter how you get them. Four overtime losses. Two wins. Whatevs. All you needed was four points. They got two and had doors blown in Vancouver and San Jose. Granted, no way in hell they were winning in San Jose in a back-to-back against Vancouver. They're like 1-10-2 in back-to-backs and they're terrible in San Jose. That made Vancouver even more important and they crapped the sheets.
The Stars sit in ninth this morning. One point out of the playoffs. Two out of the division. Time's running out.
It all ends this week. Three games: San Jose at home, Nashville on the road and the season-ender, St. Louis at home. The bad news is that all three are really good teams and, as of this morning, none of them have solidified any seeding. The Kings and Sharks play each other twice to close the season and the Phoenix Coyotes have two road games.
Frankly, it's winning time. This is what you play for. This is what all those years of toiling and learning help to pay off. This is why you bring in (and keep) Sheldon Souray and Mike Ryder. No more excuses about being young and inexperienced. Too many notches on the built to back down now.
The Stars need another four points, at least. Get your four points and you hope for the best. You hope for one of those other teams to slip. Hell, might as well try to get six points. Still, you'll be praying.
