Pondering the NFL Draft while thinking how Ryan Tannehill became the third-best quarterback in this year's class.
Before you go into detail as to who the Dallas Cowboys might draft in several week at the NFL Draft, you have to consider their weaknesses.
For the first time in a long time, they have a relatively high pick: No. 14.
The weaknesses are many and you have to get a guy that's going to make an impact in the here and now. Assuming we are fishing for luxuries is no longer an option or a illusion. Needs are needs.
The Cowboys' needs are linebacker, defensive line, offensive line and secondary. In no particular order. In this humble blogger's opinion, you make offensive line and secondary main areas of need. But if shit falls through and there's an outside linebacker itching to be taken at No. 14, you pull the trigger.
To the mocks.

14. Mark Barron
Strong Safety - Alabama
Actually, this is the opinion of Dane Brugler and Rob Rang, which both sound like made-up names. Barron already makes a few eyes perk up coming from Alabama's stultifying defense that ravages the country every autumn like the Huns. He's known as a "ball hawk," something the Cowboys haven't had at the safety position in 20 years. He is also known as more of a formal, "textbook" tackler. Not a Roy Williams, "blow'em-up" type, but still a guy better suited for run supported and trawling the secondary in zone.

The consensus pick from four different dudes, including the guy with the hairpiece from the CBS pre-game show.

14. Quinton Coples
Defense End - North Carolina
Most mock drafts have Coples going in the top 10, so him dropping to 14 is not out of the question, but not promising. He is a fucking specimen. He's 6-5 and 280 with 33-inch long arms. He can basically touch a basketball rim standing still. He's got amazing speed and strength. He's also got red flags. He was investigated by the NCAA for attending draft-day parties. He also apparently threw a fit when asked to move back inside citing his draft value. He's also known for a slow motor and disappearing. With the Cowboys, he'd move in beside Jay Ratliff off the edge.
