It's May. Let's overreact, overproject, overanalyze Texas Rangers prospects!

Leonys Martin was taken out of a Round Rock game early and the Twitterverse exploded with the possibility of him getting called up. Instead, the opposite happened: He hurt his thumb and is out six to eight weeks. He was killing Triple A pitching: .347/.423/.520.

Relief prospect Justin Miller had season-ending elbow surgery and he was put on waivers. He made it through and the Rangers signed him again. Miller is a 24-year-old former 16th-round pick of the Rangers in 2008. He turned into probably one of the frontline guys to get a call-up should the Rangers bullpen situation sour. He struck out 77 in 69 innings at Double-A Frisco a year ago. He had a 1.81 ERA.

Round Rock Express
The guy chosen just before Miller in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, Joey Butler, is probably wondering when his shot will come. He's posting a .304/.408/.520 with a team-high 10 doubles.

Tanner Scheppers is putting together his best run as a prospect with the Rangers. His ERA is down to 2.63 and opponents are hitting .204. Of late: 6.2 IP - 3 hits - 0 runs - 0 BBs - 9 Ks.  On a tear.

Julio Borbon needs a new franchise. A flurry of hits has pushed his average to .224 on the season. He is walking a bit more, but not running near as much.

Neil Ramirez is better than his 4.03 ERA might indicate. He's posted a 1.03 WHIP, opponents are hitting .217 whilst right handers are hitting .171. In late-April, put together two straight scoreless outings.

Frisco RoughRiders
Brad Hawpe: .317/.444/.524. Somebody must need a left-handed hitting fourth outfielder. Of course, it is Double-A pitching.

Justin Grimm: 33.1 IP - 23 hits - 6 BBs - 32 Ks - .190 BAA - 1.62 ERA.

The strikeouts are still high, but Mike Olt's getting the hang of Double-A pitching. Hitting .276 now. Has a .990 OPS and .422 OBP the last 10 games.

Watch out for Carlos Pimentel: 28 Ks, 25 IP, .190 BAA.

Jurickson Profar's got a 10-game hitting streak. Includes four doubles and four triples.

The Frisco bullpen (Ryan Rodebaugh, Johan Yan, Corey Young, Joe Ortiz, Chad Bell): 50 IP - 36 hits - 12 runs - 9 BBs - 43 Ks

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
I thought Jared Hoying would have a break-out 2011. I was wrong. Hitting .290 in his second full season at High A with a .380 OBP.

Cody Buckel: 34.1 IP - 19 hits - 5 runs - 0 home runs - 12 BBs - 41 Ks - 0.90 WHIP - 1.31 ERA

Not near as good, but not bad is Kyle Hendricks with a 24:5 K/BB ratio in 29 innings.

Catching prospect Brett Nicholas leads the team in doubles (6) and second in average (.277).

Lefties hit Roman Mendez at a .371 clip. Lefties hit just .200. Despite 6.04 ERA, striking out more than a batter per inning with nine walks.

Bullpen arms Ben Rowen and Zach Osborne, combined: 28.2 IP - 13 hits - 5 runs - 4 BBs - 32 Ks.

Hickory Crawdads
I'd like to think that Christopher Grayson's .480 OBP and .664 slugging won't continue. Said it two week ago, too. Got an eight-game hitting streak going.

Nicholas Martinez has 22 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Third-base prospect Drew Robinson, fourth rounder in 2010, has a .404 OBP.

Santo Perez has allowed just four runs in his last 14 innings.

Centerfielder Jordan Akins: 32 Ks, 1 BB.

Jose Mavare has struck out 27 in 17 innings.
