The good news about the NFC West: It's wide open. Literally any one team could win this division (possibly with eight wins). There's hope Cardinals fans.
St. Louis Rams -- 9-7

There are three games that I would deem borderline impossible for the Rams to win: at Pittsburgh and hosting New Orleans and Baltimore. Otherwise, I would not count the Rams out of any of the other 13 games. I base their winning on an improved defense and Sam Bradford getting incrementally better. Not great. But 10 percent better gets the Rams three more wins in the division, right?
Arizona Cardinals -- 8-8

If the NFL is about quarterbacks, then the Cardinals improved -- maybe -- by 25-50 percent over last season and that should get them four more wins. This accentuates that fact that their best player -- Larry Fitzgerald -- is dependant on someone getting him the ball. If Kolb is the real deal, the Cardinals probably win the division. Their schedule is incredibly easy. Could very easily get double-digit wins if all goes right. Easier said than done.
Seattle Seahawks -- 6-10

I'd like to give Seattle less wins, but somehow they managed to get seven and the division a season ago with a hodgepodge of quarterbacks, no receivers, a despicable defense and a threadbare running game. Who's to say that Pete Carroll won't coach them up to another eight wins? I'm betting that Tavaris Jackson will have something to say about that and lose a handful in the division. He's due. Sitting on the bench too long.
San Francisco 49ers -- 3-13

A tough division to call. Relying on the fact that a new coach will force the Niners to take a step back. Alex Smith coming back won't help. What might save the Niners from garnering just three wins is a defense was ranked before last season and still put up salty numbers against the run (96 yards allowed per game) and a very, very easy schedule. Division wins and losses will mean the world in the NFC West. The team that decides to go 4-2 or 5-1 will go a long way toward getting a playoff spot. I have as much faith in the 49ers as I do the Cardinals or Rams. Also, the team with the best quarterback will more than likely take the division. Completely up in the air.
