Run, Josh, run
Sometimes, you can't buy the publicity.

CC Carpet and Floor Design had a deal: If Josh Hamilton -- the Great Hambino -- hit a grand slam between Aug. 29 and the end of the season, anyone who bought floors or countertops from the company would get a refund.

The check's in the mail. Hamilton's grand slam in the fourth inning in the 9-1 win over Cleveland capped off an eight-run frame that buried the Tribe.

At the Ballpark, it was a weird scene. It was opposite field and not hit extremely hard. Shelley Duncan, the left fielder, went back and I think most of the crowd thought it would be caught or hit the wall.

It took about two seconds, after the runners didn't quit running, to know it'd gone out. Watch the replay. We were clueless and in slight shock.

Anyway, everyone can't quit talking about CC Carpet and Floor Design and although they will be sending out some refunds today, the amount of press they received is invaluable. They were much better off Hamilton hitting the slam.

The Rangers maintained a three-game lead over the California Angels. The magic number: 11.

Notes:
1. Derek Holland won his fourth straight going seven, allowing one run. It's his fourth quality start in a row and his sixth in the last seven starts. Yes, he's getting run supported (about eight per game), but he's also pitching really well, hitting his spots and throwing strikes (!!).

2. Holland's lost two games in his last 13 starts.

3. Some nice defense being played. Another errorless night, but the big story were the three or four tricky grounders rounded up by Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus.

4. Craig Gentry with 18 steals, and not once has he been caught.

5. Kinsler inching closer to another 30-30 season. Hit homer No. 29 last night. Needs to hit more singles to get 30 steals.

6. Mike Young with his 39th double. His most since 2006 (52).

7. Watching Josh Hamilton in person go from first to home took my breath away.

8. Shelley Duncan: Golf Glove outfielder.

9. I knew the Rangers were going to win in the first inning. On three outs. Elvis Andrus, Josh Hamilton and Mike Young each sent pitches to the middle of the left-field wall (Duncan's catches). No way that David Huff was going to prevent those from going higher and harder.

10. Rangers are 21 games over .500 for the first time since 1999.

11. Do you think when Jim Thome will give his speech upon induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame that he'll reference Sept. 13, 2011 when Merkin Valdez struck him out looking in the top of the eighth inning?
