Just when you thought the Dallas Cowboys had finished making moves, Jason Garrett is showing the 53-man roster that no one is above getting cut.Well, kinda.
Two guys I thought were pretty safe -- Sam Young and Montrae Holland -- were cut and guard Derrick Dockery and fullback Tony Fiammetta were brought on board.
Holland came to training camp out of shape and overweight and he didn't see the practice field very much, although he did outlast the final cuts to the 53-man roster. Odd because he does play several positions and was the only veteran back-up on the offensive line.
Young was the hot offensive line prospect a year ago out of Notre Dame. The additions of Bill Nagy and David Arkin and the drafting of Tyron Smith and re-signing of Doug Free probably made Young expendable. Which brings to question if any young, promising offensive linemen are expendable.
Dockery lasted all of the pre-season without a team having been with the Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills for five seasons. Which seems really odd. Good offensive linemen don't sit through training camp. Especially if the Bills and Redskins are involved.
Otherwise, we might get an early snootful of Dockery. If Phil Costa is out next Sunday, Bill Nagy might get moved over and Dockery inserted into the starting line-up.
The Cowboys filled out their practice squad inking fullbacks Shaun Chapas, Isaiah Greenhouse, receivers Teddy "Ballgame" Williams and Andre Holmes, linebacker Orie Lemon, safety Akwasi Osusu-Ansah and corner Mario Butler.
Lost are fifth rounder Josh Thomas (Panthers), fullback Chris Gronkowski (Colts) and safety and Freddie Mercury doppleganger Andrew Sendejo (Jets).
