Upton: Upside
The MLB Winter Meetings have started. Temper the excitement.

Rumors and rumors of rumors:

C.J. Wilson is apparently being courted by the Rangers, the California Angels, the spend-happy Florida Marlins, the Washington Nationals and a mystery team (duh-duh-DUHHHH). At least one of those teams has apparently made a six-year offer to the lefty starter. Wilson's received offers from all interested teams. He's aiming to sign this week.

By all accounts, the Nationals are more warm on Mark Buehrle and Roy Oswalt.

****
The Rangers were wont to trade for closer Heath Bell because he was just going ti re-sign with the San Diego Padres in the off-season. Not so much. He went to Florida for three years, $27 million.

****
The Tampa Bay Rays are hot on Josh Willingham. Anything to get him out of the AL West. He's a Rangers-killer.

The Rays are also dangling B.J. Upton out on the trade market. He plays centerfield.

****
The Minnesota Twins kicked the tires on David Murphy, who is the quintessential Twins player (white, inexpensive, not good but not bad). The Rangers -- allegedly -- nixed the idea because they don't want to mess with their outfield depth. Which means, "They didn't offer enough." For the right price, Murph could be had.

****
Finally, former Rangers great Mark DeRosa is looking for a home. The Rangers are interested. However, I very much doubt he'll get a Major League deal. He hasn't played in two years.
