The Texas Rangers trimmed their spring roster by cutting prospects Martin Perez, Neil Ramirez, Miguel De Los Santos, Cody Eppley, Roman Mendez, Justin Miller and Jake Brigham the other day.De Los Santos, a lefty, probably had an outside outside shot at getting a look as a left-handed reliever. Eppley maybe had a shot at a bullpen role. Otherwise, there was little intrigue here.
Today, they cut Tommy Mendonca, Yarvis Solarte and Kyle Hudson.
Mendonca is making the switch from third base to catcher this spring, whilst Solarte was making a push for the utility infielder spot. If he could play short, he'd probably have it. Hudson was centerfield fodder.

The Dutch Oven is locked down. The Rangers and Derek Holland have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $28 million deal that includes an $11 million club option in 2017 and an $11.5 million club option for 2018.
Colby Lewis is the only guy in rotation, who will be eligible for free agency next season and as it currently stands, Alexi Ogando, Martin Perez and Neil Ramirez should push for his spot if the Rangers decide not to retain him. That would keep everyone under contract through 2014, at least.

Yu Darvish made his third start of Spring Training yesterday against the Milwaukee Brewers. He threw 70 pitches in four innings, just over half were for strikes.
He allowed just one hit, one run and three walks. He struck out four. At times, he's majestic. Other times, erratic. No worries. He's clearly working on a lot of things including working from a wind-up. It's all good.
