The Texas Rangers finished off a series win against the Seattle Mariners 5-3 today behind another salty performance from Derek Holland. The Dutch Oven went 7.1 innings allowing five hits and two runs. He also failed to walk a Mariner along with relievers Koji Uehara (two huge outs) and Mike Adams.
Rangers pitchers allowed six walks in the four games, all from Yu Darvish and Neftali Feliz. The last walk was in the first inning of Feliz's start on Tuesday. The Rangers have gone 26 innings since their last walk. Relievers completed 9.1 innings in the series without surrendering a free pass.
It's a tremendous feat and seven games in, there's something here. Insane kudos to the staff, Mike and Greg Maddux and all others involved. It's Ron Washington's dream realized.
Notes:
1. Rangers' 3-6 hitters: 0-14. Mike Napoli's hitting .077.
2. Ian Kinsler's a crazy good baseball player. Another three hits and another three runs scored. Nine runs in seven games. At this pace, it might be a record or something.
3. It took seven games, but Mike Young notched his first extra-base hit: A home run. He also leads the team with seven RBI.
4. Attendance for 1 p.m. start: 31,513. Not bad.
5. It's April 12 and the California Angels are in last place in the AL West.
